Planthunters Garden
Kingston-Upon-Thames

Completion
2015

During the Victorian era Coombe Wood was famous for the Veitch Nurseries, breeding plants sent back by its famous plant hunters such as William Lobb and EH Wilson from all parts of the world. The water gardens are all that remains of the nursery but Warren House and its gardens still have strong ties to this history.

The new walled garden at Warren House celebrates the gardeners who have worked at the house and the plants that were brought back from around the world to be introduced to Europe. Familiar trees such as Acer palmatum will be seen alongside more unusual species such as The Handkerchief Tree Davidia involucrata and a grove of 50 Paperbark Maples Acer griseum.

The garden will be open for visitors to the house and on National Garden Scheme days from summer 2015.
